Things to See and Do

All things Grape !

Viella is surrounded by the vines of Madiran & St Mont. Slightly further afield are the vineyards of Armagnac & Côtes de Gascogne. Most vineyards are open for visits and wine tasting and for many you don’t need to book. We have put together several circuits, or you may want to take part in one of the many events held by local vignerons throughout the year such as the “Portes ouvertes” in November and the “fete de Madiran” in August.

For something a little different, why not try the escape game at chateau Crouseilles ?

The need for Speed!

With the circuit Paul d’Armagnac, Nogaro under 30 minutes away, viella is the perfect base for your stay. Starting with the “Coupe de Paques” at Easter and finishing with the “Classic festival” in October, there is every you could want in between from pushchairs to camion racing!! Off terrain racing more your thing? The circuit in Aydie is known for its’ technical difficulty as well as spectacular views! Come in June for the Auto Cross and in September for the Camion cross.

A breath of fresh air!

Whether looking for a gentle ramble along the river Adour, a full day hike across the hills or even to walk part of the chemin de Compostela, we’ve got you covered. The area is great for cycling and again we have route maps for several.

Eat, Drink and be Merry!

The Gers is one of the best food baskets in France. From the herds of Blonde d’Aquitaine, sallies and even Buffalo to Pork noir and, of course, all things duck. Then there are the kiwi plantations and market gardens galore, including two close to Viella.

Fêtes & Festivals!

The people of the Gers love to party and we’ll celebrate anything. Festival season generally runs from Easter to late September. Every year, Viella finishes the year with festival de Saint Sylvestre, beginning with breakfast served in the vines, followed by a hearty lunch, then a trip to the church for a theatre, back to the vines to pick the last of the grapes for the famous sweet white wine and finally seeing out the year in style with a gala dinner. Phew!

History and Heritage

Alternating hills and valleys, the landscape around Viella Vacances is a unique mosaic of panoramas and territories highlighting the richness and the thousand faces of heritage. The towns and villages, castles, bastides, abbeys of the region have so many stories to tell you!
